Vision Solar LLC, a New Jersey-based company specializing in solar panel telemarketing sales and installations, has recently filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. The filing, made on December 28 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, indicates the firm’s plans to liquidate its assets due to its significant financial distress. The company, headquartered in Gloucester, New Jersey, reported assets of $8 million, dwarfed by its liabilities totaling $119 million. This includes a considerable $96 million in unsecured claims, with little likelihood of repayment to these unsecured creditors.
The decision to file for bankruptcy by Vision Solar is a direct result of its challenges in resolving its debts and handling numerous legal issues. The company is currently embroiled in over 50 legal cases nationwide. These include accusations of consumer fraud, violations of telemarketing laws, wrongful employee dismissals, and lease-related disputes. A notable case involved a settlement of $135,000 in July with the U.S. Justice Department and the Arizona Attorney General’s Office over allegations that included breaches of the Do Not Call registry and misleading representations about cost savings and service charges to customers.
Furthermore, Vision Solar faced a lawsuit from Connecticut Attorney General William Tong in March, who described the company’s business practices as predatory. The lawsuit underscored several complaints about the firm’s aggressive sales tactics, misleading information about financing and tax credits, and installation of unpermitted systems leading to dysfunctional setups and burdensome loans for homeowners. This bankruptcy filing marks a significant turn for Vision Solar amidst its ongoing legal and financial troubles.
